HTML-Kit 292 runs on Win 95 through Win 7. If you're having any issues running it on Vista or Windows 7, consider the information in this document.

While HTML-Kit 292 can run on Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP, 2003, Vista, 2008 and Windows 7, there are a few things to consider when running on Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7. Most of these issues have to do with running HTML-Kit 292 plugins, such as the Spell Checker, that require additional system privileges.

  • Use the latest setup program available on the HTML-Kit 292 Download page. If you’ve downloaded HTML-Kit 292 before upgrading to Windows Vista or higher, download a fresh copy of the setup program. It contains updates that improve compatibility with Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7.
  • HTML-Kit 292 Setup program prompts for administration privileges. On vast majority of desktops, this means that you will get a prompt when running the Setup program. Click Yes to proceed with installation. If you’re installing 292 on a shared computer (at work or school, for example) the network administrator may have to help with the installation.
  • Once installed, HTML-Kit 292 can be run as usual. An exception to this rule is clearing the Plugins Cache. If any of the plugin icons appear distorted:
    • Exit HTML-Kit 292
    • Restart it by right clicking the shortcut icon and selecting "Run as Administrator"
    • Select "Tools | Install | Clear Plugins Cache" from the main menu.

With the help of these steps you can continue to run HTML-Kit 292 on the latest versions of Windows.

If you’re looking for a newer version of HTML-Kit, HTML-Kit Tools was designed to take advantage of modern features in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
