HTML-Kit 292 makes it easier to preview HTML documents in several ways, including through a web server. When previewing documents through a web server, sometimes the server may lock files that are being served. To get around this issue HTML-Kit 292 may, in some cases, create a copy of the file. If you preview read-only files, the read-only attribute may get reset.
You can update HTML-Kit 292’s settings as described below so that read-only files won’t loose the read-only attribute during this process.
- Download hkSetCachedWrite plugin. The download button is located in the Download section of the page (in light brown color, as of this writing). Save hkSetCachedWrite.zip file to a temporary folder. You do not have to expand or unzip it.
- Select "Tools | Install | Install Plugin" from HTML-Kit 292’s main menu. Select hkSetCachedWrite.zip and click OK.
- Close 292 and open it again.
- When 292 restarts, you should see a "Settings" tab on the Actions Bar with the hkSetCachedWrite icon (a small folder icon).
- Invoke hkSetCachedWrite by clicking its icon on the Actions Bar or by selecting it from "Actions | Settings" menu option.
- When prompted, click "No"
- Restart HTML-Kit 292. Read-only file attribute will be preserved from this point forward. Note that if you reinstall 292 you may have to repeat these steps.
