For what ever reason I seemed to have lost the ability to access Open from and Recent files.
I have downloaded afresh but no change.
My laptop windows 7 version seems OK.
Anyone understand what might have happened.

      Hi,

Are "File > Recent files" and "File > Open from" menu options (and
equivalents on the Actions Bar) still there? If they're there, what
specifically isn't working when you try to access them? What operating
      system is this on?

Yes they are but when you try to access, on left a thicker bar appears, but you cannot see list which should appear to right. See below they are appearing to left out of sight.
However if you minimize the screen the thicker bar is in fact the list of items which are appearing to the left instead of showing right like the other file choices. XP Windows stopped working before current version.

Thank you for the screenshot. Always helps to know what it looks like.

It's probably running out of screen space on the right hand side because
your HTML-Kit window is on that side. If you move it to the left hand
side, or maximize it, then there should be enough space to display long
          items.

I can tweak it to shorten long file names, but you can also go to "File

Recent files > Edit" and remove (or shorten) any unnecessary items.

          Hope this helps.

The only reason the window is to the right, because I put it there as it was the only way for you to see what was happening.i normally work in maximise.
I have now managed to access via the start menu and I have deleted all entries in both areas. I loaded a file closed it and it now appears in recent list.
Some of my files have a long address as a lot of my development
            is held in my documents.
Anyway thanks as they say you only use 15% of MS word and I suppose Tools has a lot of content.
            THanks Brianran

Ahh... I see! It does need to shorten displayed file names in cases like
this though, so this is now on my to-do list :)

              Thank you for your feedback!
