SVG Preview in HTML-Kit Tools

I've been using HTML-Kit 292 for several years, both at home for projects and in class on all students' machines for instructions. I've had conversations in the past with folks at HTML-Kit about SVG support and my book is mentioned in your notes about the SVG plugin. Just out of curiousity the other day I downloaded the Trial version of Tools and was pleasantly surprised to see that it properly previewed some SVG even with animation! Not sure if your development plans include beefing that part of stuff up but senior staff at Ello (new social network) say that enabling direct upload of SVG (in addition to bitmaps) is consistent with their thinking for development, so we may see an upsurge in interest (maybe, big if).

Anyhow I am planning buy lab licenses for the product (Brackets from Adobe just doesn't cut it for lab and SVG support). but would like to report a few problems with preview support for SVG with animation:

    1. http://cs.sru.edu/~ddailey/svg/animoval8b.svg -- the three curves and background don't show up
    2. http://srufaculty.sru.edu/david.dailey/cs337/follow.svg -- this seems to work okay in Tools (amazingly since it only works in Chrome and Opera, not FF, IE, or Safari) but when loading local version, the first time, everything appeared to be stalled. Only after reloading did it perform properly.

Is this the proper place to report such things?

    cheers

      Hi professor Dailey,

Thank you so much for your support. I do remember the conversation we
      had about SVG :)

So the internal preview in HTML-Kit Tools has support for Trident and
Webkit engines. WebKit is the default which is why some of your SVG came
up. "Add IE Preview" option on F12/Preview tab can be used to bring up
      IE and WebKit side-by-side views.

Your SVGs (very cool btw) work in latest Chrome so I'm sure this is an
issue with the WebKit version in Tools. The IE preview in Tools adopts
to the version installed on the system (tested up to IE 11).
Unfortunately Chrome doesn't have the same type of interface so it's
necessary to integrate WebKit code base which isn't easy to begin with
but WebKit and Blink breakup added another wrinkle.

Because of these issues, and also with the growing number of phones,
tablets, watches and other devices, it became necessary to have a
browser/device-agnostic mode of preview (ignore the "ipad" part in the URL):

      http://www.htmlkit.com/blog/preview-in-ipad/

You can use this Extended Preview mode in Tools to test SVGs in the
latest version of Chrome or whatever browser installed on the system.
You can even point multiple browsers and computers to it at the same
time to have all of them update as you edit and preview the source code.

So for example, when you're doing a presentation, you could run Tools on
your presentation PC and have the audience point their individual
browsers to it through Extended Preview. They could also run Tools on
their individual PCs and have that come up in another browser window at
the same time. The browser pointing to the presentation PC would update
as you edit code there, and the second instance of the browser pointing
to local PC would update with the local version. I've tested this case
with the latest Chrome and both your SVGs come up as expected.

A long answer... hope this helps a bit. You're welcome to post any
questions here or you can also email me directly (
      http://www.htmlkit.com/contact/ )

As for Ello, I've been waiting for my invite for a couple of weeks now.
I should probably try again in case the email got lost.

      David,

By mistake, I opened the second svg with FF and it worked fine. Same as
in Opera. Cool. Would be fun to learn how to do these.
