i am having a difficult time getting the < symbol to show up in a snippet (i mean in the list in the sidebar).
i have tried escape characters and all i get is a small <<.

is it possible to do, and if so, how ?

You can include < characters in the snippet itself and they'll appear as-is.

If you have < and > characters in the title of the snippet, they may get
reformatted or displayed using similar characters. I've made a note
about this but your snippet is perfectly fine. It's just that the
display title of it is being reformatted.
