HTML-KIT on XP64

    Hi Chami

I've not upgraded 'tools for a while.

When I tried to run the latest version I was told I need XP Service Pack 1. I have my service packs totally up-to-date. I know Windows XP 64 bit version has different Service Pack naming schemes than the standard version: could you change the check to either understand XP64, or make the warning an advisory style rather than refuse to attempt a start up?

    Thanks

    Mike

      Hi Mike,

Am I correct in assuming that you're able to run the setup but getting
this notice when you start Tools on XP 64-bit? I only have 32-bit
version of XP but if you don't mind running a couple of tests I'm sure
      we can get this resolved.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

Yes, that is correct: Tools installs happily, but then refuses to run.

I'm more than happy to run a couple of tests for you.

I am also encountering this issue on my 64-bit Windows XP system.
I have the following version info:
          Microsoft Windows XP
          Professional x64 Edition
          Version 2003
          Service Pack 2

The default installation location is C:\Program Files (x86)\HTML-Kt\Tools

I previously had the A20110721 version installed and it worked like a champ.

            Hi,

A20110721? seems such a long time ago :) Are you getting this during
setup or when you run Tools?

If you could do a quick test for me, since I don't have 64-bit version
of XP, we'll get this working before the next general release.

Installation is okay. The message appears when attempting to run tools.

Okay... that narrows things down quite a bit.

I've changed SP checking in just posted TreeHouse build 20120902:

                      Chami,

Sorry for the delay...I thought I would get an email when you responded to my post. I agree with Mike that it seems to install fine, but will not launch. How do I install the new TreeHouse build? The link takes me to a post in the TreeHouse forum, but I don't see a download link anywhere. Sorry for my inexperience!

                      Regards,
                      Rene'

No problem at all, Rene. Email notifications would be nice but probably
won't be for a while (too many things on my plate at the moment). You
can though get a RSS feed if that might be of any help:

                        http://www.htmlkit.com/newsfeeds/

TreeHouse builds are sort of in-house test builds. I've added TreeHouse
builds to your account (http://www.htmlkit.com/assistant/) however I
wouldn't recommend installing this particular build on a production
critical machine. This fix will be included in the next general release
                        as well.

I apologize for taking this long. I only have a 32-bit XP system, so
this hadn't come up until you and Mike brought it up. Which of course I
                        appreciate!

                          Chami,

Thanks for setting up my account. I was able to download, install and launch the new version on my system. I like the Active Preview! I don't do serious web development, just change logs and online help pages, so I can't give you much more feedback on the new version, all I can say is "so far, so good". Thanks for everything.

                          Regards,
                          Rene'

Yay! Thanks you for checking it out and I'm glad that you're able to run
                            it again on 64-bit XP.

By the way, "View > Preview > Active Preview classic" can be stuck to a
                            secondary monitor :)

Yup - that seems to have fixed it. Thank-you.

It may take me a while to digest and understand all the changes since my
                      last update ...

BTW - I like the parrot. My family had a "Hyancinth Blue" when I was a

Quite a few changes in that time span... you'll find a brief list in the
ChangeLog as usual ("Help > Check for updates"), and the blog has other
                        tidbits like screenshots (http://www.htmlkit.com/blog/).

                        I had a green parrot when I was a kid :) It wasn't clipped and wasn't
always in a bird cage, so it eventually flew away.

The parrot on TreeHouse build splash screen though is courtesy of Gerard
                        Schaefers :)
