F6

    Hi Chami,

I upgraded to Tools yesterday after using 292 for several years. I used other editors but found HTML-Kit to be overall the most useful. I think I tried it out originally because of a recommendation by David Sawyer McFarland in his CSS book.

A feature that I really came to like is the F6 repeat last operation shortcut. I can't find a similar feature in Tools. Is there some other way of doing this in Tools? I saw that someone asked a similar question 11 months ago. Writing code is a keyboard activity, and F6 greatly accelerated making lists and converting raw text to paragraphs. I'd sure love to have that F6 feature in Tools.

Also, I see that I don't seem to be able to have a "Favorites" toolbar in Tools. That was something else that I came to like a whole lot.

One of the reasons that I upgraded was to have UTF-8 capability. I'm really glad to have that now. I also like having the ability to compare documents. I haven't tried out the versioning, but that's also something that I hope to use a lot. I was glad to see that Tools imported my settings from 292 into the Projects window. The projects window is great, BTW.

    Thanks,

    – Richard

Hi Richard, welcome to the forum. Thank you for giving HTML-Kit Tools a
try and upgrading. Thanks to David Sawyer as well for the recommendation
      that brought you here.

A feature that I really came to like is the F6 repeat last operation
shortcut. I can't find a similar feature in Tools. Is there some
other way of doing this in Tools? I saw that someone asked a similar

I've just posted a new TreeHouse build with initial support for F6
functionality. You can download these TreeHouse builds, which are test
builds leading to general releases, from your User Assistant account.

292 only had a few types of plugins so it was relatively easier to
isolate those actions and repeat them. The newly added "Tools > Repeat
last plugin action (F6)" in Tools currently supports repeating text
insertions and Shorthand. This should cover most frequently used actions.

So for example, you can now select some text and do Ctrl+P,Ctrl+B to
wrap it with <strong>selected text</strong>. And then repeat it with F6 key.

Also, I see that I don't seem to be able to have a "Favorites"
toolbar in Tools. That was something else that I came to like a
      whole lot.

Actions Bar in Tools doesn't have a favorites tab but you can easily add
frequently used snippets and commands using Ctrl+Shift+T. Because Tools
has docked windows, you can keep the snippet window open ("File > Insert

      Snippet window" menu option).

One of the reasons that I upgraded was to have UTF-8 capability. I'm
really glad to have that now. I also like having the ability to

Thank you for the kind words, Richard. I appreciate it. I hope this
build helps a bit with the transition.

A few other things you might try in HTML-Kit Tools to reduce typing...

Type a tag name such as "a" (without quotes) and press Ctrl+J. You can
then press Tab to quickly jump to href and content fields. If you add a
"c" to the end of a tag name, divc instead of div, for example, and
press Ctrl+J it'll automatically add and move you to class="" attribute
      as well.

Alt+Insert from 292 is still there but supports additional syntax. Try
      typing: div.green#header

Tools also supports Emmet/Zen Coding. Since you mentioned creating
lists, try typing ul>li*5 and pressing Ctrl+E

      http://www.htmlkit.com/blog/zencoding-in-html-kit/

On the other hand, the list wizard might be easier to use if you have
      large lists:

Let me know if you have any other questions.

          Chami,
Just installed the Treehouse version (after my bug report in another thread) and just wanted to say that the repeat key is really great.
Wish I'd had it a couple of months ago...it would have saved my mousing hand a lot of work.

          Great addition!

Whoohoo! Glad it helped! Thanks for giving it a try boB.

          Chami,

I would like to than you too. Maybe you can comment of the plugins for HTML-Tools. I take it from the website, that plugins are mainly for HTML-kit 292. How do I install e.g the hk ThumbnailStarter and the kh TableStarter in Tools?
Also, where do I find a Manual for HTMLikit Tools/

I am looking forward to your answer.
          Have a nice day

HTML-Kit Tools has a lot more functionality built-in so it doesn't
really need as many plugins as HTML-Kit 292. For example, 292 required
plugins for displaying HTML hex colors, HTML Tidy, batch find/replace,
context menus, split previews, div/list/table generators, matching tags,
highlighting braces, etc. Tools comes with these features so you don't
need to install a separate plugin.

The Image Picker in Tools can help with images:

            http://www.htmlkit.com/blog/image-picker-2011-10/

List wizards can help with creating lists/divs/tables:

If you need a particular 292 plugin though you can still install and run
            both 292 and Tools.

Also, where do I find a Manual for HTMLikit Tools/

Well, it wouldn't be HTML-Kit if it had a proper manual :) but you can
find most of the information on these pages:

            http://www.html-kit.com/tools/changelog/

            http://www.html-kit.com/docs/tools/

I am looking forward to your answer.
