Changes to Auto-Indent and cursor movement

    Good evening all,

I thought I'd take this opportunity to post here telling everyone about the enhancements Chami has just made and posted in the treehouse download.

As a new user I have moved from Dreamweaver to HTML-Kit and have found the product to be everything I wanted BUT there were two behaviors that were niggling at me.

First, having the cursor on a line and pressing the ENTER key to move the line down (something you'd do about 100 times an hour when building a page) resulted in the line indenting to the last level... this was always a DOH! moment for me.

Second, I tend to use the indentation guides all the time as I use strict indenting and it is the perfect tag matching tool (as I'm sure everyone does). What was getting on my goat was that the cursor would move back to the left column (or to the end of the line if there were hidden spaces) as you moved down or up. A small annoyance but it was another one that was niggling at me.

I shared these with Chami and to my surprise and absolute delight I received a reply in under 24 hours telling me that two new features had been added to the code and available for treehouse download (lifted from Chami's email)

There's a new TreeHouse build (internal test build) in the User Assistant with these two options:

    • Edit > Preferences > Editor > Indent > Indent new lines

Turn it off, and new lines won't indent based upon last visible line.

    • Edit > Preferences > Editor > Misc > Move caret beyond end of lines

By enabling it you'll be able to move caret alongside indent guides (or any other column) and it'll maintain position regardless of actual length of each line that you move through.

They work a treat and, in my opinion, have made what was a very good editor into a truly great one.

This is customer service second to none.

    Regards
    Tony Benci

:) What's a small group of virtual friends if not being helpful. You
guys definitely help me out. Of course I can't get to all requests this
quickly but hopefully it'll happen more often than not.

Actually, I am surprised he was this slow. He usually has
fixes/improvements in place before we ask. (as a result of his
getting the request via tachyon.net* several weeks before the
        request is sent.)
