Appear to be stuck in an upgrade loop

    Chami,
Opened up Tools this afternoon and the little package was highlighted green.
Clicked on it and it told me it would install the 20111216 version.
I checked "Help-->About" and it told me I already had this version, but I thought I would try it anyway, as I've got the preferences section set up to let me know about Treehouse builds.

Clicked on the package and the little indicator on the lower right turned completely green and then I had the option to install and restart (or vice versa).
Let Tools do its thing and within a couple of seconds of the restart, the package is green again...sigh ( Note that one of my first clues that something wasn't right was that my theme hadn't reverted to the default blue).
Wants to give me the 20111216 version once again and the message at the bottom of the screen says I have an update package that has been downloaded, but not installed.

Next, decided to try downloading the installation file from the User Assistant and do an install, since that has solved the problem in the past. Did so and, once again, my theme remained the same, but under "Help" it tells me I have 20111216 installed.
Yet, the package has turned green once again.

    Any thoughts?

Re: the new newsgroups: I like the feel of the pages, as i only check in via the web interface rather than use a newsgroup reader. One thing I miss, however, is that in the old interface, I could see all the current postings, rather than just the most recent post. Know you can't please everyone, but just thought I would put in my two cents.

A belated Happy New Year, BTW.

Am I correct in remembering that you had this happen once before? If so,
I think at the time I thought that it may have had to do with a virus
scanner type of program that's keeping HTML-Kit locked. And that would
prevent it from being auto updated.

It sounds like the "Include test versions when checking for updates"
option is enabled. You can verify if this is the case under "Preferences

Advanced." If you grab TreeHouse 20120114 from User Assistant, the
      green icon should go away.

No, I agree with you! I'll add a list of recent topics to the forums
      homepage.

A belated Happy New Year, BTW.

        Chami,
Sorry to tardy in replying to your reply, but I've been busy of late (which, in this economy, is quite a shock).

When I had this upgrade problem before, it was with a totally different anti-virus and, if I recall correctly, anti-virus never came up, but we ended up deleting some file from the Tools folder and that allowed the update to be applied.

Currently, I'm using Avast and I've gone through the logs up one side and down the other and I'm not getting any visible alerts when I try to upgrade, nor is there any evidence of any passive stoppage going on in the background (or, at least, there is nothing in the Avast logs).

You are correct in that the Upgrade green package is notifying me that a new Treehouse build is available. I tested this with my other computer and, once the correct settings were chosen in Preferences, that computer didn't show the package until the 20120202 version was officially released.

Thinking all this might be related to a Treehouse build, as opposed to a "regular" release, I did a test on my other computer, when the latest version was officially released.
The green package appeared, I told it to do its thing, the little round thing filled in, I selected to restart and there was no update applied.
Same problem as before, with the package coming up green again, even though I'd tried to apply the update.
Finally found the only way out of the problem was to download a copy from the User Assistant and do a manual install.

        I'm baffled.

        Any other ideas?

        boB
