550 SIZE not allowed in ASCII mode

  • Darren777, 22nd Feb 2012 2:15 am

    Hi

Whenever I create a new file on any server I get the following warning:

550 SIZE not allowed in ASCII mode

What is that and why does it happen?

I say warning because the file actually creates ok and can be written to with no further warnings.

      Hi Darren,

Has this always been the case or is this new? FTP implementations vary
greatly so these kinds of things aren't unusual behind the scenes. But,
if this is new, I may have turned up verbosity a little too high.

        Hi there

Yeah this is quite new, probably about 2 weeks - definitely only since I started with new version - I am using:

        HTML-Kit Tools for Windows 20120202
Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1), 64-bit/WOW64
        IE 9.0.8112.16421, COMCTL32 6.16, SHELL32 6.1.7600.25177, 50727
1,254,164 KB out of 4,194,304 KB of physical memory available.
        .NET Framework 2.0.50727.5448 (r) / v2.0.50727 (clr) / 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1 (i)
        Monitor: (0, 0, 1920, 1080), 32 bpp

        Best regards,

        Darren

Thank you Darren. I'm looking into this right now. It looks like a case
of being too verbose (showing a message instead of posting to the FTP
log) but will try to post a fix later today.

Bill didn't give me a template for "looking into this right now" so
          you're getting my boring programmer's reply :)

Did you ever come up with a fix for this? Very frustrating at times...

            Thanks

I got a little distracted with Windows 8 CP and getting Tools to run on
Win 8 desktop :) Nudge me again if I don't get back to you tomorrow.

:) Thank you for that, Darren.

Just posted 20120309 to the TreeHouse... please let me know if it's
                  still be extra verbose.
